Classic Program: Reproduction of Antique Dolls
The Classic Program is a course of study designed for dollmakers who wish to progress through the DAGSD learning the fundamentals and techniques for making reproductions of antique dolls.

Apprentice I: 3 days
This is an introduction to porcelain dollmaking. You will learn the fundamentals of casting, Dust-free Cleaning™ of soft-fired porcelain, firing a kiln, eye cutting, the Water-base Technique™ of china painting, and assembly of a cloth-bodied doll and an all-bisque doll. You will complete two dolls, one from group I and one from group II, and receive a free head mold, catalog, and Golden Key to Dollmaking. The hosting studio will furnish glass eyes and all other materials to complete both dolls. * Free Mold: OED3046: Dream Baby. (Needs OED3000A arm mold and BP06 body pattern which you can purchase.)

Apprentice II: 3 days
This seminar will challenge you to apply the skills gained in the Apprentice I seminar and to learn more advanced techniques. You will receive instruction in eye cutting, Dust-free Cleaning™, painted eyes, painting and stringing a composition body, and doll assembly with a cloth body. You will complete two dolls, one from group I on a composition body and one from group II on a cloth body. The hosting studio will furnish a composition body, glass eyes, wigs, and all other materials to complete both dolls.

Apprentice III: 3 days
This is the most advanced of the Apprentice seminars. You will receive instruction in eye cutting and sizing for paperweight eyes and the more advanced china painting of a French doll. You will complete one doll on a composition body and two heads (one from each group). The completed doll is from group II or III, except that if either Phenix or Kahlie is selected from Group III, the only other head to be painted will be selected from Group I. The hosting studio will provide the composition body, glass or paperweight eyes, and wig for the completed doll.

After completing Apprentice I, II and III you will receive the title Certified Doll Artisan and will have acquired the skills to prepare for the Doll Artisan Proficiency Exam (DAPE)
Doll Artisan Proficiency Exam (DAPE): 1 1/2 days

Prerequisite: Apprentice I, II, and III.
If you are interested in teaching dollmaking or earning higher dollmaking titles, you can attain the title “Certified Seeley Product Teacher” by taking and passing the DAPE. On the first day, your instructor will review all of the dollmaking techniques and procedures, as well as the doll history you learned in the Apprentice seminars. You will complete a review booklet covering all topics on the exam and will use this booklet, along with the Golden Key to Dollmaking and any other relevant material, to study for the exam to be taken on the second day. The exam is normally completed by noon. You will receive your grade and certificate by mail.

Modern Program: Reproduction of Modern Dolls
The Modern Program is a course of study designed for dollmakers who wish to progress through the DAGSD learning the fundamentals and techniques for making modern dolls.

Beautiful Doll 1: 3 days
This is an introduction to porcelain dollmaking. You will learn the fundamentals of casting, Dust-free Cleaning™ of soft-fired porcelain, firing a kiln, eye cutting, the Water-base Technique™ of china painting, and assembly of a doll. You will complete one all-bisque doll available only through the seminar program, Amber (M5002), and will receive her head mold free. You will also receive a free catalog and Golden Key to Dollmaking. The hosting studio will provide wig, eyes, and all other materials to complete the doll.

Beautiful Doll 2: 3 days
From the basics you learned in Beautiful Doll 1 you will advance into assembling a doll with armatures and receive an introduction to Dimensional Doll Painting™ with china paint shading of eyes and other facial features, arms, legs, and torso. You will learn how to apply a wash to white porcelain and to paint modern lashes and feathered brows. You will complete one head from each group and complete one a cloth and porcelain body and one head with painted eyes (includes wig). The hosting studio will provide the wigs for both dolls and the eyes, body, and other materials for the completed doll.

Beautiful Doll 3: 3 days
This is the most advanced of the Beautiful Doll seminars. You will be introduced to Portrait Painting™ by learning how to paint more realistic and more difficult lashes and brows, and how to give more dimension and shape to lips and eyes. You will also learn how to bevel and size greenware for paperweight eyes. You will complete one doll from Group I on a composition body and with an overall wash and painted eyes. Doll from Group II will be assembled on an all-bisque body (ALB9873) and will be cast in one of the darker colors of porcelain slip (will not include wig or eyes.

Porcelain Arts Program: Combines Reproduction of Antique Dolls, Modern Dolls and Decorative Arts

This course of study is designed to introduce the beginning dollmaker to a variety of porcelain projects, including modern and classic dolls and decorative arts pieces. These seminars will enable you to discover which avenues of the porcelain arts are most appealing to you and will provide you with the foundation of skills needed to advance to the specialty dollmaking seminars of your choosing.

Each of the three seminars in the series will have a different party theme and will include a classic doll, a modern doll and a decorative arts porcelain project.

Porcelain Concepts 1, the Birthday Party: 3 days

This is an introduction to the porcelain arts. You will learn the fundamentals of casting, Dust Free Cleaning of soft-fired porcelain, firing a kiln, eye cutting, the Water-base Technique™ of china painting and assembly of a cloth-bodied doll and an all-bisque doll. You will complete three projects: Jan Garnett's Munchkin (J405), an adorable modern baby on a cloth body with porcelain hands and feet; flirtatious Betty (S491), a classic all-bisque doll with jointed arms, sculpted hair and side-glancing painted eyes; and Winter Bonnet (SC313), which will be painted using a variety of decorative arts techniques.

You will receive a free Winter Bonnet mold, Seeley's catalog, the Golden Key to Dollmaking handbook and a worksheet and detailed instructions for painting and assembling each project. There will also be other surprises and party favors!

Porcelain Concepts 2, the Masquerade Party: 3 days

You will review the skills learned in Porcelain Concepts 1 and learn new techniques: applying attachments to greenware, assembling a doll on a composition body, how to apply a glaze and paint on a glazed surface, how to paint a German doll. In the seminar you will finish: Jan Garnett's Little Ashlyn (J221), an adorable modern child doll, on a composition body; a painted head for the classic German doll Miranda (S35H); and the Pierrette Trinket Tray (SC281ST), a glazed and china painted container designed to represent a reclining female clown figure.

You will receive a free notebook filled with lots of dollmaking techniques and information and a kit for each project that will include all the china paints you need and detailed instructions for painting, decorating and assembly. There will also be other surprises and party favors

Porcelain Concepts 3, the Garden Party: 3 days

The techniques you learned in the first two seminars will be reviewed and you will step up to: painting techniques for French dolls, special tools and techniques for painting small modern dolls, cutting and beveling for paperweight eyes and lots more! You will finish Susette (M1055), a 10.5” modern doll on a composition body; the Heubach Dancing Girl (SC449ST) figurine; and a painted head for the classic French doll Emilie Steiner (S304).

You will also receive a free notebook filled with lots of dollmaking techniques and information and a kit for each project that will include a worksheet and all the china paints you need to complete the projects. There will also be lots of other surprises, party favors and refreshments.

After completing Porcelain Concepts 1, 2 and 3 you will receive the title “Certified Porcelain Artist” and will have acquired the skills to prepare you for the Doll Artisan Proficiency Exam (DAPE) or the Modern Doll Artist Proficiency Exam (MDAPE).
